Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 22

22. When and how were you first introduced to Eureka seveN?

Beginning of Grade 7 in 2007, when I met a bunch of new people who were really into anime and, at the time, I hadn’t really given anime much thought. I think I was a little off-put by it since like Grade 5 when I saw a random InuYasha episode where he was like being molded into the breast of a naked woman who was posing as his dead mother or something and my Grade 5 self was really weirded out.

But anyways, I decided to give it another shot since these new people quite liked it. Every Friday night was anime night for the program ‘Bionix’ (basically Canadian TOONAMI). I thought InuYasha was ok and Fullmetal Alchemist was pretty cool (though I was never strictly following it) but Eureka seveN aired right after FMA and I was kind of interested in the giant robots who surfed in the air, pfft. Anyways, I think I got into it when it was about episode 10 or so, and I watched it religiously every Friday night with a new episode on Bionix up until episode 26 (because they looped it from episode 1 after that, for whatever reason). I found the rest of the episodes online and watched them subbed, and then I rewatched them on Bionix dubbed when they finally aired 1 - 50.

And then I bought the DVDs and the collection began and.. yeah…

Good ol’ days of Canadian anime television.

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 21

21. Favorite Side Character/Character that didn’t get more than two episodes of screentime total?

Mm… it’s a bit of a weird three-way tie for me, for different reasons I guess.

1. Sakuya, because I really liked her character and I loved her story.

image

Especially for how much was told about her in such a small amount of time. I loved her for the intrigue of her character to me.

2. Digger. I thought he was such a fun guy, and so expressive too.

image

But I guess he got like 3 or 4 episodes with random cameos, so this might not count. Eh, he was still such a fun side character, so that’s mainly why I really liked him.

3. William B Baxter, for his sheer philosophy on life.

image

This guy is incredible, and the anime gets so many positive points for making me downright love this guy within literally like 10 minutes of screentime (and to just emote so hard over his end in episode 49, ughugh).

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 20

20. If you’ve seen Eureka seveN Episode 51: New World Order, what did you think of it? (Keep in mind it ended up as a non-canonical alternate ending to the TV series).

image

I went absolutely nuts when I heard that they would be re-airing on it TV, because I’d only seen a completely raw and pretty low-quality DVD rip of Episode 51 like YEARS ago, probably back in 2007, and since its an alternate ending, I’d always wanted to know what happened in it. I also had this whole section called ‘Episode 51’ in my E7 movie book which bugged me to the core because it was in Kanji and I couldn’t read it. Still can’t, but at least I now know what the ending is.

I was ecstatic to see that Hadena had subbed it, and I think I torrented it until about 1 am, watched it, recorded my reaction with my mic for whatever reason (… I think I’ve still got the audio file) and then I think I rewatched it until about 2 am. That or I blogged about it with ben until 2 am, because we were emotional ninnies over that whole episode. I wept throughout the whole thing.

image

Compared to the ending of the TV series, I much prefer the canon ending to this ending for many reasons, however I loved the dialogue that they gave to the characters (especially Eureka and Anemone, particularly when they confronted each other in New Order).

I’m super excited for the manga serialization, too. Hopefully that gets scanlated!

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 19

19. Favorite mecha of the series.

The Nirvash typeZERO, specifically its Spec 2 version.

image

Nirvash in general is pretty bomb, and definitely my favorite mech for all that it goes through with Renton and Eureka and its pilots, but I especially like the Spec 2 because it felt more like once it had been upgraded, it reflected the development of Renton’s and Eureka’s relationship as well. More specifically, probably the biggest developments of their relationship in my opinion.

The Spec 1 was cool-looking and the Spec 3 was certainly pretty damn awesome, but Spec 2 has my ultimate favorite design.

It also had that cool Hadouken Seven Swell ball of energy attack, nbd.

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 18

18. List two characters who you wish hadn’t died in the TV series, and why (and I put two there for a reason. Also not ‘at least two’, just two. I know people want to say like everyone but I’m narrowing it down here).

As depressed as I was over Charles and Ray’s deaths, I felt more for Will’s and Martha’s deaths. It makes me feel a little better that their consciousness probably went with the Scabs, but I started to uncontrollably shake and tear up when Martha actually came to, and Will turns around to see her smile for the first time in years, and then their home gets hit by a rocketing piece of debris and a massive explosion occurs.

image

I loved Will and Martha, despite how little screentime they got, and I really wish they could’ve lived together (especially now that the Command Cluster was gone and Martha wasn’t in her comatose-like state).

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 16

16. If you could pick any character from the series to meet, who would you pick and why?

Hm… I think it’d be really interesting to meet Hilda. She seems like she’d be a cool gal to hang around with or go shopping with.

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 15

15. Name one moment in the series that made you cry, or get really close to crying.

Episode 33: Holland trying to lift/ref with his wounded leg and Talho trying to pick him up while he’s openly shedding tears and his voice sounds so broken as he’s declaring himself a pathetic human being.

image

I dunno about most people, but I cry when Holland cries. Goddamn.

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 14

14. Favorite song from the OST by Naoki Sato?

image

Why did I write this question like I did? Now I have to narrow down ONE.

Ok nope, going a little against my question because I honestly can’t pick one. So, here’s my top favorites.

image

Sky of Hope - gets me emotional every single time I listen to the damn thing. It just feels like this good mixture of nostalgia, sadness, and hope. To me, anyways.

Combat Zone - Another good one, especially for action scenes. I’m also really glad they brought this back for the movie.

Ocean Inside the Memory - Reasons of similar feelings to Sky of Hope.

Dewey Novak - This just works so damn well with his character, and I always get chills listening to it. Such a great piece!

Last Hope - Maybe this should’ve been near the top, because I really, really love this piece too much. It’s got this fantastic mix of constant drums and trumpets (I believe?) along with a bunch of other good stuff. By the time 1:10 of the song hits, I feel like I’m close to the end of some epic journey, and I love it.

Wish Upon a Star - For reasons I sorely hope I don’t need to explain.

And if we wanna talk insert songs, I’m in love with Tiger Track by KAGAMI, I’ve Got It (New School Eureka Acid Mix) by Ko Kimura, Niji by DENKI GROOVE and STORYWRITER by Supercar

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 13

13. ‘OTP’ of the show to you (or list a number of OTPs from the show for you).

Renton/Eureka at the very top, but then followed closely by Holland/Talho, then Norb/Sakuya, then Dominic/Anemone. Those are my big ones, anyways. All the couples in the show are lovely, though.

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 12

12. A personal headcanon of yours (can be anything about the series).

I’m not sure if I have one. I remember for awhile it was that Mischa and Greg get married again at some point, but since The Day After, that’s a headcanon that’s become canon.

Hm… Iunno. I remember really liking the idea back in the Eureka Eight manga that Holland and Talho called their kid Charles, and then I think nicknamed him Charlie. That was nice. ;3; ‘Guess I’ll go with that for now.

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 11

11. A place in Eureka seveN that you’d love to visit?

Sakuya’s bedroom; it always looked so pretty to me. Plus meeting Sakuya would be so cool. ;A; I’d love to learn about Vodera stuff combined with any Scab knowledge.

I feel like I wanna talk about Dewey Novak and a few opinions regarding him being a pedophile. I feel really strongly on the issue and I want to try to clear some things up that I can, at least a little.

So, Dewey Novak discussion to follow under the cut.

Eureka seveN 30-Day Challenge, Day 9

9. Favorite episode? (If not one, list several).

I’m fond of a lot of episodes, but Episode 26: Morning Glory is definitely my biggest favorite for innumerable reasons. The artwork, the character development for like 3 different characters (IN ONE EPISODE), the OTP moment; like EVERYTHING. And I know its a major episode and I know its cliche but it was just SO FANTASTIC.

But other favorites just slightly below this one are episodes 9, 10, 19, 25, 32, 33, 37, 39, 41, 45, 46, 48 and 50.
