Fire your Excalibur ⊣════> to ten personnel that you're pleased to have met. . . If affection is bestowed back by five others, you must certainly have a large heart to love ~<3 ( through making amvs and now this :3 )
It was interesting. I liked it on a few levels; the artwork was gorgeous and the creepiness factor of it was QUITE apparent and well-executed. I mean I’m not normally one for horror but I have to appreciate the atmosphere they seriously achieved. Also the voice acting was pretty sweet, especially the Phantom’s (sir, whoever you are, ace work!) At the point when you have to look out of Box Five through your opera glasses and BOOM! he’s up in your face: yeah I’m pretty sure I had a heart attack.
Y’know, especially since that happened at like 11 pm. In the dark. In my basement.
Downsides? Well I wasn’t a fan of constantly finding like 15 items in random areas of the opera. I just got kind of annoyed with seeing those sparkly ‘I Spy’ areas that I /had/ to do in order to advance in the game. :I But, that’s just my opinion.
The other unfortunate thing was that the story was weak: really weak. We don’t know how the Phantom managed to wrestle a young girl from her parents to the Opera Populaire, we don’t know what the purpose of the black roses were (… or the entire point of the game when he could’ve just asked her to find his mask and some hearts to open the way to Christine’s dressing room mirror). Perhaps it was just his sadistic idea of fun. And the ending? Well we don’t get one. We get a bunch of what-ifs and then its over. :c
I hope they have a sequel slated next on their agenda. Otherwise, I am just left feeling so unsatisfied. :c
Also as much as I appreciate the creators for taking a Leroux approach to the whole thing, they focused a lot, if not solely, on his mentally insane murderous side. Yes, I KNOW that is the Phantom, but Leroux also makes him to act really pathetic when vulnerable around Christine. Not to mention Christine kissed him and he felt like he could be happy forever so he wasn’t angry that Christine chose Raoul over him. They must’ve meant to intend that the ending was slightly different in their game version because it really makes no sense for him to still be on a murderous rampage.
But anyways, this was a pretty nice game. Gorgeous artwork and an accomplished terrifying atmosphere. ‘Wasn’t a fan of the ‘I Spy’ stuff, the ending and I wish they allowed him to show his more vulnerable side every once and awhile. He was one terrifying character in the game though, which was awesome.
